Abstract Four hundred eighty one friesian cows in sakha animal production researh institute ,delta region ,Egypt,were used in this study throughout the period from 1995 to 1998 , to follow the calving behaviour of sakha dairy herd ,the relation between calving time and each of dam calving weight ,parity , calving month, gestation length, calving ease, and calf birth weigh, this investigation also includes also the study of the effect of calving time on calf health, calves mortality rate, incidence of metreites and retained placenta .all cows were kept under the management . chi-square analysis for the data obtained in this study indicated that their was a significant relation for each of dam calving weight , calving month , parity, calving ease and calf birth weight with time of calving . gestation length had no signifcant effect on time of calving . This study indicated that the calving time have a significant relation between calf heath , calf mortality rate in first day and first week after calving , metrietes incidence and retained placenta in their dams.
