| Abstract |
The bacterial and fungal pathogens of Phyllocnistis citrella Staint. Were investigated in three different regions (El-Mansoura, Talkha and Aga) at Dakahlia governorate from June 2000 to May 2001.
Two entomopathogenic bacteria (Bacillus sp. And Pseudomonus sp.) and two fungi (Aspergillus flavus link and Penicillum sp.) were isolated from naturally infected P. citrella larvae and pupae.
The pathogenicity of microbial pathogens was evaluated under laboratory conditions. Bacillus sp. was significantly more effective than other isolated pathogens (Pseudomonus sp., A falvus and pencillium sp., respectively).
The bacterial pathogens (specially Bacillus sp.) exhibited higher toxic activity against P. citrus population in comparison with pathogenic fungi under field conditions.
The role of the pathogens on P. citrella population was evaluating under field conditions. The mortality among larval and pupal stages included four submortalities (predatism, parasitism, diseased insects and unknown mortality). Parasitism was the main mortality factor on P. citrella population followed by diseased insects. Mortality % of P. citrella population caused by the pathogens recorded relatively high fate of total population mortality, specially during winter and autumn seasons.
