Abstract |
Effect of locally synthesized compounds (A)2-amino-4-methyl-4-(2-methyl prop-1-enyl)pent-1-ene-1,1 3,5,5penta carbonitrile, (B) 2-cyanoacetohydrazide and (C)2-cyanoacetamide on the fourth instar larvae of cotton leafworm were assessed as antiffeedant. Compound (A) was prepared as flowable formulation contained 22.5% wt./v. active ingredient while (B) and (C) were prepared as soluble powder formulations contained 90% (wt./wt.) active ingredient in two different constituents as B1,B2 and C1, C2. Food consumption and larvae growth rate in fourth instar larvae of Spodopotera littoralis fed on treated castor bean leaves indicated reduction of food consumption and larval growth rate were observed as 4th instar larvae were fed. Consumption was marked reduced which consequently slowed larvae growth as indicated by comparison with constant experment. Metabolic rate was markedly reduced and thes reduction rates was increased with increasing in the concentraion of formulation.
The values of the efficiency of converting ingested food (E.C.I) explain the efficiency of conversion of food to weight gained. Consumption of food, growth rate and efficiency of conversion are indepent on the nature of the formulation.
