Abstract This work was conducted to study blood groups and heat stress relationship affecting productive traits and some physiological reactions in Norfa chickens. Results obtained could be summarized as follows: The averages of body weight and growth rate during different periods of age in Norfa chickens exposed to heat stress were in general higher in control than heat stressed groups. The genotype B15B15 was higher than both B1B1 and B2B2 for body weight at all ages studied. The control group was earlier and had body weights at sexual maturity higher than birds which was exposed to heat stress. The B2B2 was earlier and had superior effect on body weight at sexual maturity than those B1B1 and B15B15. The interaction between heat stress and B-blood group on age at sexual maturity was highly significant (P * 0.01). The control hens gave significantly (P * 0.01) egg number and egg mass during first 90 days of laying greater than hens exposed to heat stress at either 40 or 45 °C. The egg number and egg mass of B2B2 were greater than that of either B1B1or B15 B15. The eggs produced by hens exposed to 45 °C were higher in weights of egg, albumen and yolk as well as percentage of albumen than those eggs produced by hens exposed to 40 °C and control. There were significant for heat stress effects on all egg components studied. The control had shell weight and thickness lower than those 40 and 45 °C groups. The respiration rate and body temperature before exposed to heat stress was significantly higher than that after heat stress. Birds exposed to 45°C had higher respiration rate and body temperature than that to 40°C. The B1B1 genotype had significantly (P* 0.01) respiration rate after exposure to heat stress (R.R2) higher than both B2B2 and B15B15. The interaction between heat stress and B-blood group was highly significant (P*0.01) for R.R2. The interaction between heat stress and B-blood group on B.T1 were significant (P*0.05) and not significant on B.T2. The sperm motility, concentration and percentage of live sperms decreased significantly by heat stress. While, percentage of abnormal of sperms increased significantly (P*0.01) in birds exposed to high temperature. The B2B2 genotype had significantly (P*0.01) higher of sperm motility, concentration and percentage of live sperms. The interaction between heat stress and B-blood group was significant (P*0.01) on sperm concentration, and (P*0.05) on live sperm percent. Blood plasma in control group was significantly higher than heat stressed groups, an opposite trend was observed for plasma cholesterol and alkaline phosphatase. Also, they were increased with increase of age. Dressing percentage and weights of heart, liver gizzard and spleen were significantly higher in control group compared with groups which heat stressed at 40 and 45°C. The thyroid, testes and ovary weights were significantly (P * 0.01) increase in control birds than that of heat stressed birds at 40 or 45 °C. The weights of thyroid, testes and ovary were higher at 5 than 3 months of age. The interaction between heat stress and age was significant (P *0.01) on ovary weight, and (P * 0.05) on testes weight.
