Abstract |
The aim of this work was to study the effect of partial replacement of (50% or 75%)corn grain by dried biologically treated sugar beet pulp (BTSBP) on growing rabbit growth performance, nutrients digestibility and economic feasibility. A total of 27 weaned at 40 days white New Zealand White male rabbits were used and distributed randomly into 3 groups of 9 animals each group was divided into 3 replicates of (3 animals each). The initial average live body weight values were 788.88, 853.33 and 851.10 g for the control and the groups fed 50% and 75% BTSBP, respectively. The experimental period was lasted for 8 weeks.
Results obtained indicated that groups fed diets contained 50% and 75% BTSBP replacing corn grains were significantly (P<0.05) heavier in the final LBW and ADWG than the control. Group fed 50% BTSBP was (P<0.05) higher in FCR than group fed 75% BTSBP and the control. Also group fed 75% BTSBP was (P<0.05) higher in FCR than the control. However, no significant differences were found among the three groups in average feed intake. Group fed 75% BTSBP was significantly superior in the digestibility of DM, OM, CP, CF, ash and NFE of the tested rations followed by group fed 50% BTSBP and the lowest values were recorded by the control one. The highest value of TDN was significantly recorded by the two treated groups fed BTSBP compared with the control. The group fed 75% BTSBP was (P<0.05) higher in DCP values than the other two tested groups. No significant differences were found among three tested groups in total protein, albumin, globulin, A/G ratio GPT, GOT and the cholesterol. Group fed 75% BTSBP was (P<0.05) higher in glucose value compared with other two tested group. Rabbits fed 50% BTSBP diet resulted in was (P<0.05) higher in blood urea compared with those fed 75% BTSBP or the control diet. Regarding to carcass characteristics, groups fed BTSBP were (P<0.05) higher in total edible parts compared with control. The highest economic efficiency was achieved by the group fed 50% BTSBP (145.89%) followed in a decreasing order by group fed 75% BTSBP (115.3%) and the least was the control (78.99%).
