Abstract |
A knowledge-based system is an advanced computer program that can solve problems requiring the use of expertise and experience.
This feature makes it very suitable for use in dairy farm management. A rule-based expert system or knowledge-base computer program was designed and developed to provide feeding management for dairy cows.
This system consists of two separate modules. The first module was designed for feeding formulation for all types of animals in the dairy farm. The user in this case is requested to pass to the system the needed information about the age, weight and production, according to the type of animal and the system replies by the suggested feeding for such animal. The second module is responsible for diagnose feeding problems of diary farms. The system contains a knowledge base, inference engine and user interface. The feeding problems were classified according to their cause to nutritional deficiencies, improper storing and harmful component, which also classified to metal pollutant, microbial and natural components. The program is able to detect and diagnose the problem and its cause through its Arabic interface while the user is only answering (YES/NO) questions. The system reports to the user, after diagnose the problem, the reasons of this problem, how to solve it and how to avoid it in the future with the other animals.
