| Abstract |
Bacteriological and physicochemical analyses were carried out on treated and untreated sewage water samples. Bacteriological determinations of sewage sludge were also carried out. Seasonal variations in sewage water were observed concerning the total counts of bacteria, aerobic sporeformers, coliforms, fecal coliforms, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella and Shigella. The highest numbers were recorded in summer months, while the lowest were observed in the treated sewage water. The total numbers of coliform in the treated and untreated sewage water around the year were above the recommended limits. Also, there was a clear reduction in the values of biological oxygen demand (BOD5) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the treated sewage water.
