Abstract |
This study investigated the effect of tillage depth and rear wheel slip of an instrumented Front – Wheel Assist (FWA) tractor operating in a sandy loam soil and equipped with radial tires in two wheel drive mode on wheel weight transfer by conducting field tillage experiments. Test conditions included three tillage depths (69.6, 106.0, and 141.3 mm) and the selected forward speeds used were within the range of (2.63 to 8.53 km/h). This range of forward speeds made a wide range of rear wheel slip (3 to 19 %). Rear mounted chisel plow was used to perform this study. Mathematical models that adopted specially defined parameters, tillage depths and rear wheel slip, were developed from the collected data to predict wheel weight transfer of the tractor while conducting tillage operations. These mathematical models can be used in the traction prediction models for tractor performance.
