English : Partial replacement of n-mineral requirements by N-organic source as related to both sesame - wheat yields and their components

Abstract Two successive field experiments were conducted on a sandy soil at Ismailia Agric. Res. Station to evaluate the effect of partial substitution of N-mineral (ammonium sulphate. As) by N-organic source (composted rice straw, Cr) on N, P and K availability in soil, productivity and the uptake of these nutrients for sesame - wheat cropping sequence. Treatments included entire N requirements as individual application of either N-mineral or N-organic as well as ratios of both sources, i.e., 3:1, 1:1 and 1:3 (75%As+25% Cr, 50%As+ 50% Cr and 25% As+ 75% Cr, respectively). The application of N-rates of all amended plots were kept at 45 kg N/ fed for sesame crop at summer season and 100 kg N /fed for wheat at winter season. Results indicated that incorporation of both N-mineral and N- organic caused a substantial increases in the available N, P and K in soil, where the beneficial effects of organic acids (resulting from the decomposition of organic compost) and N-mineral reached the optimum condition. Organic matter content in soil increased gradually with increasing the portion of applied N-organic source in the mixture. Grain and straw yields of sesame and wheat progressively increased with increasing the applied ratio of N-mineral: N-organic, where the maximum yield was scored under me treatment of 75%As+25% Cr. Also, N, P and K uptake followed a trend almost similar to that of grain and straw yields. Seed oil content and oil yield of sesame was positively affected by the individual or combined treatments of N-organic and N- mineral, both treatments of 100% As and 75%As+25% Cr were similar in their effects and recorded the highest oil content, with a superiority for the treatment of 75%As+25% Cr, which gave the maximum oil yield. Also, the crude protein content in wheat grains increased and achieved the greatest value under the treatment of 75%As+25% Cr
