Abstract |
A field experiment was carried out in a calcareous soil at El-Tor, South Sinai governorate to study the effect of dual inoculation with Azotobacter chroococcum and Azospirillum brasilense under N-fertuizer at levels of 50 and 100 Kg N / fed in the form of calcium nitrate and ammonium sulphate on soil microflora, nitrogen availability in soil, N- content as well as wheat yield.
Results indicated that inoculated treatments recorded higher values of the counts of total bacteria, Actinomycetes, fungi, Azotobacter and Azospirillum compared with those the uninoculated ones. Both applied N sources caused a substantial increase in the soil N availability particularly in the presence of biofertilizer, and Ca(N03)2 gave higher available N compared with (NH4)2SO4. Dry weight and N-uptake (60 days after sowing) were significantly increased due to N-fertilization and the maximum dry weight (1.64 g/plant) was scored at 100 kg N/fed in the form of Ca(NO3)2 under bacterial inoculation. Grain and straw yields recorded higher values by the combined application of microbial inoculation and N-fertilizers than those of the uninoculated ones. Although the maximum yield was recorded at 100 kg N/ fed, the percentage increases of the inoculated crop at 50 kg N/fed over the uninoculated one (32.4 and 40.5 %) were much higher than those received 100 kg N/fed (14.7 and 9.16 %) for grain and straw yields, respectively, multiplied by two to four times approximately, and that ascribed to the favored activities of these bacteria under low N-levels. N- content at harvest followed a trend almost similar to that of grain and straw yields
