English : Using DRIS indices and sufficiency level approaches to asses the N, P and K status in corn plant

Abstract The current investigation was conducted to asses nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium status in corn plant using Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) as a new procedure and the sufficiency level (SL) as a traditional procedure.Field of 33 factorial experiment for N, P and K was executed and corn plants (variety, Fardy 10) was used as an indicator plant. Combinations of three rates for the tested nutrients were applied to corn plants. Samples of whole plant after 30 days and leaves at silking stage were collected and their contents of N, P and K were determined. Nitrogen and potassium concentration in corn leaves at silking stage was lower than the reported critical level of N and K. However, phosphorus concentrations in leaves were found to be within the critical P range. The results indicate that there is a significant response to nitrogen application. In a similar way increasing P and K rates significantly Increased dry matter yield of corn.The best combinations which produced the highest yield of corn were 1-0-1, 1-1-0, 1-2-1, and 2-1-2. Treatment of 1-0-1 contained nitrogen and potassium with no phosphorus produced the highest yield (4948 kg/fed). The obtained results of DRIS show that N was the most limiting nutrient for corn followed by phosphorus, while K was the third limiting one. The result of direct reading of the data on PD chart almost similar to those obtained with calculating DRIS indicies
