Effect of intercropping of (guar) leguminosae (cyompois tetragonolaba) with tomato on level infestation of sucking pests infesting tomato

Abstract |
Cyamopis tetragonolaba is considered one of the most important sources of mucilage, which makes special type of gum, used in industry and pharmaceutical preparations. This investigation was conducted at Fayoum (Egypt) during the 2001 tomato growing Nile season. Large numbers of insect species were recorded on tomatoes. Of these, some other insect species are pests and cause injury to the plants, for example: aphids, whiteflies, jassids, thrips, and spider mites. The population density of these common sucking pests was determined on five treatments using inter cropping of c. tetra gonolala at 5 spaces (25cm, 35cm, 45cm, 55cm, and 65cm) with tomato and control. The intercropping of Cyamopis tetragonolaba (guar) with tomatoes reduced the infestation of sucking insects on tomato plants. The results showed that narrow space of guar was generally more effective to reduce population pest and damage caused. The significant interaction between density plant intercropping shows that all insect pest populations were jointly influenced by this factor.
