Abstract The present study concerned with the changes in soil salinity and heavy metal contents at the industrial Helwan sector and, accordingly their impact on the growing Plants. The field and laboratory studies indicated: 1. The industrial waste effluents are the main source of pollution. 2. Soil salinity as well as heavy metal contents increased widely in the vicinity of the industrial complex and beside El- Hager Canal, however it decreased widely toward El- Khashab canal. 3. Surface soil layers possessed high salinity and heavy metal concentration compared with the subsurface. 4. In some areas around the factories as well as beside El- Hager c. corn plants failed to grow at all or to give grain yield. 5. Heavy metal contents in the growing crop plants being well correlated with their levels in the soil. 6. Plant roots possessed the highest level of heavy metal contents followed by leaves then grains. 7. Increasing heavy metal contents in corn plant tissues decreased their suitability for animal or human consumption.
