English : Effect of diets on biology and life tables of dermatophagoides farinae (acari : pyroglyphidae)
Abstract Biology and life table parameters of Dermatophagoides farinae Hughes (Acari: Pyroglyphidae) were determined under laboratory conditions of 30 0C and 60 ± 5 % relative humidity. Each of the following diets was evaluated as suitable diet: dry yeast, crushed wheat and crushed rice. This species went through five stages before reaching maturity. Female percentage in the total population ranged between 60-65 %. Diet of dry yeast provided the shortest generation time (G), female longevity and greatest fecundity (F), which resulted in highest net reproductive rate (R0 ) 21.84, expected females per female, intrinsic rate of increase (rm ) 0.11 and finite rate of increase (exp rm) as 1.12 per day. Diet of crushed wheat resulted in close values of (i.e G= 23.5 , F = 44.4 , R0 =16.47, rm = 0.09 and exp rm =1.09, respectively). Crushed rice was the least suitable diet, with results of G = 26.4, F = 35.2, R0 =10.14, rm = 0.07 and exp rm = 1.08, respectively. The obtained rm values were highly affected by generation time and mean fecundity . Key words: Dermatophagoides farinae, life tables, diet .
