Abstract An experiment was carried out at greenhouse to study the effect of organic matter (compost) addition at four levels on VA-mycorrhizal colonization and symbiotic nitrogen fixation in Leucaena leucoephala. Organic matter addition increased significantly VA-mycorrhizal colonization as phosphorus content in plant. Peak activitiy was obtained at 30 and 45 days after planting and 10 and 20g g.kg-1 soil of organic matter amendment. Inoculaion with VA-mycorrhizal and organic matter addition, significantly enhanced dry weight of plant shoot and P and N uptake by plants. Nodules number, nodules dry weight and nitrogenase activity were increased significantly with VA-mycorrhizal inoculation and organic matter addition. It is concluded that organic matter application increase significantly colonization with VA-mycorrhizal and rhizobial nodulation and symbiosis with Leucaena leucoephala plant.
