English : Analytical Economic Study of Calf Fattening Farms in Egypt

D. in Agricultural Science (Agricultural Economics): Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanata University, 2008. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ The mission aimed to study the current situation of red meat production in Egypt in general, and the Gharbia governorate in particular, by studying the most important variables that are believed to have an impact on red meat production, and assessing the levels of economic efficiency and productivity of this production in addition to studying the production of livestock feed in Egypt, as well as a study of meat consumption and the factors affecting it at the national level and Gharbia Governorate. The research was conducted on a stratified random sample of beef and buffalo breeders in Gharbia Governorate, amounting to 210, which were distributed to the two study centers, which are the centers of Al-Mahalla Al-Kubra and Zefta in Al-Gharbia Governorate. The results of the study showed that the most important economic factors affecting meat consumption in Egypt separately are population, per capita income, red meat prices, poultry prices, and fish prices, assuming that other factors remain constant. As for the annual per capita consumption of red meat in Gharbia Governorate, the most important factors affecting it were poultry prices, fish prices, and annual per capita income. The results of the study showed that the actual deficit in animal feed was about 3.51 million tons of starch, 0.3 million tons of digested protein in 2006. It became clear from the results of the study that the most important economic factors affecting the production of red meat in Egypt separately are the number of animal units, the area of sustainable alfalfa, the amount of green fodder in the form of starch consumed in the production of red meat, the amount of butter in the form of starch, and the amount of concentrated feed in the form of Starch, and the real agricultural price per ton of red meat, assuming that other factors remain in the same proportion, as there was a positive effect of these factors and statistically significant. The results of the study showed that the economic efficiency of the beef calf in the three holding classes amounted to about 127.28%, 130.5% and 123.4%, respectively, and it was also found that the economic efficiency of the buffalo calf was 118.6%, 124.5% and 118.7% for the three holding classes, respectively. The economic efficiency of beef calf fattening farms is better than buffalo calf fattening farms. The results of the study showed, in general, that there are deficiencies in some of the resources used in the production of red meat from veal and buffalo farms, while there is an extravagance in some other resources. In light of the findings of the study, it recommends the following: 1- Increasing the production of fodder resources, especially non-traditional ones, such as rice straw, cotton wood and bagasse. 2- Working to increase the productivity of farm animals producing red meat by crossbreeding with foreign strains. 3- Exploiting the idle capabilities of farms and reaching full production capacity rates. 4- Providing loans to small breeders at low interest rates, and paying attention to veterinary care. _______________________________________________________________________________________________
