Study The Impact of Some Economic Variables on Strawberry Exports to The Most Important World Markets

The study aims to identify the export status of Egyptian strawberries within the main import markets, in addition the market share index of Egypt's strawberry and the price ratio index. Also, study the most important variables affecting on the Egyptian strawberry exports using the modified gravity model.
The results showed that:
- The most important importers of Egyptian strawberries are: Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates with about 22.1%, 13.9%, 11.7%, 11.1% and 8% respectively, during the period ( 2012-2016).
- Saudi Arabia and UAE are occupied the first rank of Egyptian exports value of strawberries by about 68.6%, 39.6% of the total imports of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates respectively, while the percentage of Egyptian exports to the Belgian, German and UK markets it were about 6.5%, 1.7%, 2.6% respectively during the period (2012-2016).
- Egypt's share of strawberries in the Saudi market which about 69.4%, competing with the United States of America. In the Belgian market it was about 6.7% competing with Netherlands and Spain, in the German market it was about 1.8%, competing with Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium, In the UK market was about 2.7% competing with Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Morocco. In The UAE market it was about 39.8%, competing with USA during the period (2012-2016).
- The price ratio shows that Egypt has a price advantage in both of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while Egypt did not have a price advantage in the Belgian, German and English market because of the high Egyptian export price.
- The modified gravity model shows that the Egypt's gross domestic product (GDP), per capita GDP in Egypt, per capita GDP of the most importers countries of Egyptian strawberry, geographical distance, The dummy variable of the language and culture, the exchange rate, are the most important independent variables affecting on the value of Egyptian strawberry exports during the period 2000-2016, where These variables explain about 87% of the changes in the value of Egyptian exports of strawberries.
- Finally the study recommended some important recommendations, such as increasing production and supply of Egyptian strawberries in times when the production and supply of competing countries in the imported markets decrease, use the contract farming system in the production and exportation, and opening new markets for Egyptian strawberry exports especially in Arab market.
