English : Monitoring of organochlorine pesticide residues in human milk, mothers serum, infant serum and their daily intake by breast fed infants
Abstract The present study was conducted in one of the nearly rural areas in Monoufiya Governorate where both air born and food exposures may be considered as sources of pesticides ,Milk and serum of 33 lactating mothers aged from 19-35 years and the serum of their suckling babies aged from 15-24 months were subjected to organochlorine pesticide residues determination. HCH isomers were detected more frequently in mothers 'milk (109.41 PPb) 1n 30 samples out of 33 samples, followed by mother serum with mean value of 4.90 ppb, (5 out of 33 samples) and then by infants serum with the mean value of 40.39 ppb in 15 samples out of 33. Heptachlor epoxide is detected in mothers'milk with high frequency (18 out of 33) and with the level of 8.21 ppb which might be due to continuous use of chlordane in wood treatment. Heptachlor epoxide is also in one infant serum sample (0.39 ppb). Endrin was detected in mothers 'milk with a present higher frequency and lower value (13.79 ppb), but it detected in only one mothers' serum sample (31.66 ppb). The level of DDT complex mostly has the same mean value in both mothers serum and in infant serum but it has probably the higher value in mother milk due to their accumulation character in fats. The mean value of DDT's reaches 66.56 ppb and is nearly approaching to that value obtained in cairo in 1987. DDE-p,p' is the most frequently detected derivative in 30 out of 33 mother milk samples representing 90.9%. Estimated dietary intakes (EDIs) of these contaminants by the breast fed infants were compared to acceptable daily intakes (ADIs). EDIs of DDT complex and gamma HCH isomers were below ADIs and higher in case of heptachlor + heptachlor epoxide and endrin.
