English : Genetic studies on some productive traits and some loci associated with egg production in japanese quail .

Abstract The present study was carried out at Poultry Experimental Center, Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University. The objective of this work comprised to two parts. The first one was the genetic parameters of egg production traits, body weight and carcass traits of Japanese quail. The second part was conducted to detect and determine albumin, transferrin and HI loci and Its relation with the above mentioned characters. A total number of 305 Japanese quail produced during twelve hatches from twenty one sire families were used in the present study. Individual body weights were recorded at different ages (marketing, age at forty two days) . Egg production traits were egg. number, egg weight and egg component weights. Carcass traits were taken randomly at seven weeks of age. The analysis detecting for the three loci was practiced on the blood for Hi gene and in plasma for albumin and transferrin loci. The results of heritability estimates showed that egg number and egg weight were 0.33 and 0.43,respectively. Egg component weights showed lower heritability around 0.25. The heritability estimates for body weight at different, ages showed a higher estimates over 0.50 except at hundred and fifty days (0.37) Results of loci showed that albumin locus had only two genotypes. The dominant homozygote (AIAI) was higher egg number (88 eggs). While, (Alai) genotype showed seven days earlier in sexual maturity. Transferrin locus showed that (TfTf) genotype recorded the higher egg number (89 eggs) and earlier sexual maturity with five days. Moreover, Hi locus had no clear effect between three genotypes for all the characters studied.
