Abstract The present study was carried out at the Poultry Breeding Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University. The aim of this work was to study the effect of breed, age of bird and some feed additives (Ascorbic acid, Egg-Plus, Kemzyme and Virginiamycin) on economic traits, egg quality and some blood physical and chemical characters in two breeds of laying hens Fayoumi and White Leghorn during the first seven months of egg production. The following results were obtained: 1. All of the economic traits studied were in favour of White Leghorn . 2. Most of the economic traits studied improved by all feed additives used in both breeds. 3. Egg shell, yolk and albumen weights were increased for all dietary treatments than controls in both breeds. 4. The red and total white blood cells and blood haemoglobin content were slightly increased by most feed additives used 5. In both breeds, serum total calcium, inorganic phosphorus, total proteins and total lipids showed slightly higher values for all dietary treatments.
