Arabic : بعض المتغيرات المحددة لمشاركة الزراع فى روابط مستخدمى مياه الرى بمحافظة الشرقية
Abstract The research aimed at identifying farmers' participation in water user associations, variables which effect farmers participation , in addition to identifying the most important obstacles facing the farmers in the improved irrigation system and their suggestions to overcome such problems. Sharkia governorate was selected as it represents one of biggest governorates in the improved area . A random sample of 300 farmers was chosen. according to their Iand location at the main irrigation canal "Mesqa" of All Saideah (100 from top, 100 from middle and 100 from end ). Data were collected by personal interview questionnaire, and the following statistical methods were used: frequencies, percentages, Pearson simple correlation coefficient, Chi-square and multi-regression analysis "stepwise". The research revealed the following results: • About 74.3% of interviewees were concentrated in the high participation category. There were five independent variables that in total contribute in explaining the total variance in participation degree in water user associations which were: formal participation degree, interviewee's opinion in techniques of improving irrigation systems, culture cosmopoliteness degree, leadership degree and interviewee's age, with an R2 of 0.369. • The most important obstacles that face the interviewees were: disputes among neighbors on the same irrigation canal "Mesqa" particularly in regard of operating the improved "Mesqa" to irrigate their lands, machinery operators took advantage of farmers for their own sake, landlords abuse and took advantage of using irrigation machineries disregarding the order, engineers careless to follow-up and solve such problems, unavailability of maintenance and spare parts for lifting pumps, high price of irrigation timing per hour, malfunction of pumps on the improved "fNlesga" which impede irrigation.
