| Abstract |
The study is concerned with knowing the main reasons which led some cotton growers to give up growing cotton in El – Sharkia governorate, Knowing the cotton growers suggestions concerning overcoming the reasons which led them to stop growing the cotton. knowing the most important sources of the agricultural information on which the cotton growers depend, and , finally, knowing the guiding services offered by the agricultural guidance for the cotton growers.
That research was done in Al-Sharkia Governorate as it is considered on of the main Goverorates in Egypt growing cotton. Belbes, Abo Kber and Hehia towns – the biggest three towns where giving up growing cotton was noticed -- were chosen for the research. With the some criteria, the biggest village of each of the previous town was chosen for the research, Al- Balashon, Manshat Radwan and Sobeh villages – to achieve the research goals a regular random sample of 10% of the total number of the growers who stopped growing cotton five years ago. That was done through lists prepared by the help of those who work in the agricultural cooperative associations in the chosen villages. According to that the sample consisted of 200 examined growers. The research data was analysed by the repetitive list presentation, percentages and the arithmetic mean.The most important conclusions of the study are:
Firstly: the main reasons which made some growers give up growing cotton, concerning the times, and the prices of the cotton growing requirements are:
- The high costs of the cotton growing requirements.
Cotton occupies the land for a long time up to 7 months.
