Abstract |
This investigation was carried out to study the genetic behavior of yield and its components in three crosses, i.e. Giza 45 x Giza 77, Giza 45 x Giza 80 and Giza 77 x Bahtim 101. The results showed significant positive heterosis relative to the mid-parents for boll weight, seed index and number of seeds / boll in the first and second crosses and for lint yield / plant in the third cross. While, relative the better parent significant positive heterosis for seed index in the second cross only and significant negative for lint percent and number of seeds / boll in all crosses and for boll weight and seed index in the third cross were noticed. Overdominance controlled the most studied traits in F1 hybrids and F2 generations overall crosses and the remaining traits ranged from partial to complete dominance. Significant positive inbreeding depression in F2 and F3 for boll weight, seed index and lint index were recorded in all crosses, except lint index in the first cross, which was significant negative, while insignificant values for seed cotton yield / plant, lint yield / plant and number of seeds / boll were noticed in the three crosses.
