English : A study of the abilities that enable extension workers in kafr el-sheikh Governorate to perform their professional roles[Egypt]

Abstract The objectives of the study are: I- Specifying the Professional roles of the extension worker. 2-Specifying the abilities needed by the extension workers to perform each professional roles. 3- Identifying the characteristics of extension workers. 4-Identifying the degree to which needed abilities are possessed by extension workers. 5- Determining the bivariate relationships between extension workers characteristics and possession of needed abilities. 6- Specifying the main determinants of possession of needed abilities by extension workers. 7- Identifying the felt professional training needs perceived by extension workers. Field data were collected by personal interview from a sample of 359 extension workers from Kafr El-Sheikh governorate representing 30% of the population collected data were coded and analyzed using several statistical techniques including percentages, means, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear correlation and regression. The main findings of the study may be summarized as follows: 1- Respondents ability to perform the educator role was found to be positively correlated with age, agricultural experience, extension work experience agricultural training, extension training, private business, perceived importance of knowledge about and exposure to subjects connected with extension roles, attitudes toward farmers, media exposure, job satisfaction, general knowledge, educational level, major, residence, motorcycle ownership and facility to get to office. 2- Respondents ability to perform the programmer role was positively related to age, agricultural work experience, extension work experience, agricultural training, extension training, private business, perception of the importance, knowledge about, academic exposure, and training exposure to subjects connected with extension roles, attitudes toward farmers, exposure to communication channels, job satisfaction general knowledge, major, and educational level. 3- Respondents' ability to perform the professional leader role was found to be positively related to age, extension work experience, agricultural training, extension training, private business, perception of the importance of, knowledge about, academic exposure to, and training exposure to subjects connected with extension roles, attitudes toward farmers, exposure to communication channels, job satisfaction, general knowledge, and major. 4- Respondents, ability to perform the change agent role was found to be positively related to age, agricultural work experience, extension work experience, agricultural training, extension training, private business, perception of the importance of, knowledge about, academic exposure to, and training exposure to subjects connected with extension roles, attitudes toward farmers, exposure to communication channels, job satisfaction, general Knowledge, major, educational level, and background.
