Arabic : اثر مستوى طاقة الغذاء و مصدر البروتين الغذائي على أداء الأغنام
Abstract The present study was carried out on 60 cross- bred ewes (Suffolk x Ossimi ) aging about 3 years and of about 46 kg body weight . The ewes were classified into four comparable groups of 15 ewes each and fed the experimental rations to study the effect of dietary energy level and protein source on the reproductive performance , milk yield and the pre-weaning growth and survival of their lambs . In addition , the male lambs of each group were kept after weaning on the same dietary treatments to study the body measurements , lamb performance and carcass characteristics . Results indicated that the protein source and the interactions between the protein source and energy level were of no significant effect on the all studied traits . Feeding the ewes on the high energy ration resulted in significant increase in the milk yield and weaning weight and pre-weaning growth of their lambs . Increasing the energy level of the diet of the lambs resulted in significant increase in the gain in body weight , gain in heart girth measurements, digestion coefficients of DM, OM, CP, EE and NFE and nutritive values . While feeding the low level of energy resulted in better feed efficiency as the amount of TDN per kg gain .Feeding the lambs on the high level of energy caused significant increase in their slaughter body weight , empty body weight , carcass weight , weight of the pelt , the heart girth measurement of the carcass , fat thickness over the ninth rib and over the ribeye muscle , weight and percent of fat tail , weight of separable fat and weight of fat in the carcass . Meanwhile , the percentages of the head , legs and empty digestive tract were significantly lower in low - energy -fed lambs.
