Abstract |
Incidence of salmonella in new born calves, Iess than three months of age suffering from enreritis and diarrhea was investigated. A total of 365 faecal samples were collected from 3 different farms Viz: Farm l , ll and lll (89, 107 and 160 samples respectively).
The indirect method of salmonella isolation was employed. Incidence of salmonella amounted 9.0. 8.4 and 11.3 percet in farm l. ll and lll respectively with a mean of 9.8 percent. The highest incidence recorded was 21.4 % in farm 1 , while the lowest was 4.6% in farm lll, during the period of investigation.
Thirty-five Salmonella strains were isolated and by serological work, it was proved that 17 strains were identified as Salmonella typhimurum, while the rest 18 strains were Salmonella anatum. The two Salmonella serovars were distributed in the three farms in different numbers. No double infection with two serovars was recorded in any calf.
