English : The impact of field school on farmers' knowledge and practices of some cucumbers' recommendations in Ismailia governorate

Abstract The study aimed to determine Field School (FS) farmers' knowledge and practices degree of cucumber recommendations as well as the non-Field School farmers' knowledge and practices degree of the same recommendations to know the impact FS on its members, determine the problems facing FS members of cucumber crop and their suggestions to solve it. The study was conducted in 4 villages in Ismailia governorate, Om Azzam and El-Mahsama EI-Kadima in El-Kassaseen district, and EI-Saba Abar El-Gharbia and Abo-Swar El-Balad in Ismailia district. A random sample of 84 FS members was drawn from the 420 members, as well as another 52 non-members sample. Data were collected using questionnaire by interviewing respondents from 1/4 2004 to 1/5/2004. Data were analyzed using table presentation. frequencies, percentages, Average, median, Slandered Deviation (SD) and (t) test. Results of the study revealed that: I- The grand average of FS farmers' knowledge regarding cucumber planting and tillage amounted to 21.76 degree and SD of 2.65, while it was 14 degree and SD of 1.3 for nonmembers. 2 - The grand average of FS farmers' practices regarding cucumber planting, and tillage amounted to 17 degree and SD of 21.94, while it was 13.88 degree and SD of 1.16 for non-members. 3 - A significant difference was detected at 0.01 between FS farmers' knowledge degree and non-member farmers regarding some cucumber recommendation as calculated (1) was 15.74. 4 – There was a significant difference at 0.01 between FS farmers' practices degree and non-member farmers regarding some cucumber recommendation as calculated (1) was 11.7. 5 - The main problem facing FS farmers regarding cucumber crop was high prices of input supplies especially fertilizers and pesticides rating to 82% while the least problem was the low production prices rating to 4%. 6 - The main suggestion viewer by FS member was to re-assign the Coop for the distribution of input supplies in a rate of 41%.
