Abstract The main objectives of this research were: to determine the present approach followed by the study participants in controlling Orobanche; to determine farmers' knowledge of integrated Orobanche control; to determine relationship between some selected and demographic variables and farmers' knowledge score concerning recommendation of integrated Orobanche control; and to determine different obstacles that imped the respondents' efforts in implementing recommendation of integrated Orobanche control. The research was conducted in Giza Governorate, El-Giza and El-Badrashin districts were selected randomly, two villages per district were selected randomly, El-Manwat and Mite-Kadous from El-Giza district, El-Azizia and El-Marazik from El-Badrashin district. A systematic random sample of farmers were selected based upon the agricultural ownership directory available in the agricultural cooperatives to represent about 12% of the farmers' number in the research villages with a total sample number of 130 farmers 35 farmers of El-Manwat village, 34 farmers of Mit-Kadous village, 33 farmers of El-Azizia village, 28 farmers of El-Marazik village. A pretested written questionnaire with interpersonal interview were used in collecting the research data during May, 2004. A simple correlation coefficient, arithmetic mean, range and percentage were used in presenting the research data. The main findings of the study were as the following: 1-The findings showed that the research participants were following mistaken approaches in controlling Orobanche including hand-pulling of Orobanche and leaving them in the field, mistaken getting rid of the Orobanche, learning the infested land without cultivating any of the legume crops, cultivating faba beans spaces that have no resistance to Orobanche, using soil from the dikes, and using no method for controlling Oroanche. 2-The research findings indicated that 83.8% of the research participant know the recommendation concerning hand-pulling of Orobanche, while 71.5% of the research respondents know that recommendation related to follow appropriate agricultural consecutive cycle, 37.7% of the respondents know the recommendation of pesticides used in controlling Orobanche, 30.8% of the respondents know the recommendation of applying organic fertilizer free of Orobanche seeds, 27.7% know the recommendation concerning cultivating anti-resistant Orobanche faba bean, 14.6% of the research participants know the recommendation regarding cultivating late faba beans, 9.2% of the research participants know the recommendation regarding land exposure to sun rays before its cultivation. On the other hand, the research participants do not know any regarding the three recommendation related to cultivating some crops functioned as Orobanche, flbes (phytomiza) and agricultural soil mirfure with trichoderma fungus. 3-There was positive significant relationship (at 0.01 significance level) between farmers' knowledge score regarding Orobanche integrated control and each of educational status, exporter extension source and activities, communication with information sources related to integrated controland economics return. There was a negative significant relationship (at 0.05 significance level) between the dependent variable of farmers' knowledge score regarding Orobache integrated control and fatalism. 4-The obtained findings revealed that were eight obstacles that face farmers at their implementation to Orobanche integrated control. They were: farmers do not know to use Orobanche flies and places where they are a variable, farmers do not know the way of using trichoderma fungus and of it's vailability, farmers do not anti-Orobanche trapping crops, high cost of land exposusure to sun rays, farmers do not know faba bean species that resist Orobanche, farmers do not know availability of Orobanche-seed in organic fertilizer because of the tiny size of Orobanche seeds, unavailability of pesticides used in controlling Orobanche, and unavailability of extension pamphlets related to Orobanche integrated control.
