English : Food consumption rationalization practices of rural women in two villages in El-beheira and El-sharqya governorates

Abstract This research aimed to study food consumption rationalization practices of rural woman in two villages in El-Beheira and El-Sharqya governorates, the study was carried out through achieving the following sub-goals: 1- Assess food consumption rationalization practices of respondents. 2- Determined expenditure percentage on food of respondents. 3- Assess reference knowledge in food consumption rationalization of respondents. 4- Study the relation ship between food consumption rationalization practices and some independent variables. Data were collected by questionnaire through personal interviews with a random sample consisted of 200 rural women form two villages in El-Behira and El-Sharqya governorates. Simple correlation, multiple regression models, average, frequencies and percentages were used in analyzing and presenting the data. Findings indicated the following: Low level of food consumption rationalization practices was observed among respondents, there was high expenditure percentage for food as low income, television was the best important contact methods for respondents. Surrounded reference group was the most important reference in food consumption rationalization practices of respondents, There was Apositive significant relationship between respondents education level, husband education level, family size, average of family income, land owns, expenditure for food, exposure to mass media, number of reference of knowledge and level of food consumption conservation practices. According to step-wise multiple regression analysis, respondents education level, land owner, family size and exposure to mass media together explained about 16.1% of variances in the level of food consumption rationalization practices.
