Effect of using non- conventional feed formulation on the performance of broiler chicks

| Abstract |
The objective of this work was to study the effect of using non - conventional feed resources (NCFR) namely hydrolyzed feather meal (HFM),poultry offal meal (POM) and barley radicel dried (BRD) to substitute completely all conventional protein sources in broiler chicks ( Arbor Acres ) diets either supplemented or not with two types of commercial enzyme on the chicks performance.
Three parts of study were conducted. The first part included four digestion trials using adult Mandara cockerels in which digestibilities and metabolizabilities of HFM, POM and BRD were determined indirectly compared with yellow corn (YC), While the second aimed to evaluate the protein quality of HFM and POM by using total protein efficiency (TPE) technique. In third part, five non-conventional diets were formulated by using four different ratios of HFM and POM (zero, 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2) in addition to the control diet. Each of the six experimental diet was either supplemented or not with two types of commercial enzyme (Kemzyme & Avizyme) in a (6*3) factorial design.
The experimental diets were of isonutritive value either at growing (22% CP and 3000 Kcal ME/Kg) or at finishing (18% CP and 3100 Kcal ME/Kg) period, respectively.
From the first part, HFM and POM were highly digested by poultry. The digested organic matter was 75.37%, 85.61 % respectively. The ME values on DM basis for HFM , POM and BRD were determined to be 3237, 3876 and 1830 Kcal ME/Kg. these values indicated that HFM and POM could be used for feeding poultry as they recorded better nutritive values than recorded by BRD .
Result of second part of this study showed that POM recorded the highest value of TPE (2.72) whereas HFM recorded the lowest value (2.10) and these results Indicate the superiority of POM as an animal protein source for growing chicks. From the 3rd part of study, the feed formulated by POM either alone or on a combinations of (2:1) , (1:1) and (1:2) ratio could take place In broiler diets more widely as a non-conventional source of protein instead of the highly expensive other animal protein sources. In addition the commercial enzyme supplementation had no significant effect on all performance parameters. All these finding has been confirmed by the values obtained for the economical efficiency
