Abstract |
The experiment was designed to examine influence of time and frequency of insemination (single at 55 hrs ,vs double at 55 and 65 hrs); two catheters of insemination (Micropipette vs Mini tube);
insemination volume (O.lml vs 0.2 ml); and interval between two injection of estrus synchronized hormone. A total of 176 mature Rahmani ewes 88 Ewes in experiment 1, 88 ewes in experiment 2, (6 rams and 3 teasers were used in the study). The age of the ewes averaged (39.2 month) with 50.568 ± 0.819 kg live body weight.
Every group divided randomly into four cells (1,2,3,4); every cell contain 22 ewes. All animals were treated with intramuscularly injection with 0.7 ml (183 μg of PGF2a) Estrumate to synchronize estrus. The period between the two injections was 9 days from onset of first injection in Experiment 1. The same protocol was follow in Experiment 2 expect interval between two injections was 14 days.
All ewes were inseminated at 55 hrs, post second injection with Estrumate. One-half of ewes received a second insemination 10 hrs post first insemination. Ewes in experiment 1 were inseminated with insemination volume 0.1 ml contain 200 x 106 sperm. However ewes in experiment 2 were inseminated with 0.2 ml contain 200 x 10 6 sperm.
As method of insemination the ewes divided into two groups.
The first group inseminated by using Micropipette; and second group inseminated by using Mini tube as an inseminating catheter.
Resultant reproductive performance of both experiment indicate no advantage in a double insemination. Overall lambing rate, litter size after single and double inseminations were 55.2%, 1.34 for single insemination and 50%, 1.32 for double insemination respectively, (p<0.05). Effect of time (55 or 55 and 65 hrs) and frequency of insemination (single vs. double) on lambing rate were (74.4% and 58.1%) and (37.2% and 40.1%) in ewes inseminated by 0.1 and 0.2 ml, respectively. Effect of insemination method using Micropipette or Mini tube lambing rate in both single and double insemination were (59.5 % and 72.7%) in experiment 1 and (36.4 % and 41.9 %) for experiment 2.
