Abstract |
Evaluation of seed vigor and quality in some flaxseed lines which might useful in the breeding programs. Laboratory experiments were carried out at the Seed Technology Research Department and Oil and Fats Department, Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Giza during 2008/2009 to study the quality of five lines of flaxseed (Linum ustitatissimum L.) e.g. (2465/1/3, 2419/2/1, 402/3/18/9, 402/1 and 16). The results showed that the high percentage of germination recorded in line 2465/1/3 but the lowest percentage record in line 402/3/18/9. Accelerated ageing values ranged from 98% (402/1 and 402/3/18/9) to 86% (line 16). Electrical conductivity was much higher in 402/1 (117.4 µScm-1g-1) than in 402/3/18/9 (79.53 µScm-1g-1). Seedling characters varied among different lines. Results of chemical composition revealed that the line 2465/1/3 recorded the highest percentage of protein, line 16 contained the highest percentage of carbohydrate and 402/3/18/9 and line 16 recorded the highest percentage of oil. The high level of acid value appeared in 402/1, while the low level of acid value appeared in 2419/2/1. In the other hand, the peroxide value ranged from 2.07 (402/1) to 4.23 (402/3/18/9), and the iodine value ranged from 178.3 (2465/1/3) to 190.9 (402/1). Linolenic acid (C18:3) was the major unsaturated fatty acid in flaxseed oil. The highest content was found in line 16 (56.16%), while the lowest content was found in 2419/2/1 (52.97%). SDS-PAGE seed protein technique was used for biological identification of flaxseed lines, the results of SDS-PAGE seed protein revealed a total of bands of 18 bands with molecular weight ranged from 304.33 to 45.96 kDa. The total of bands varied between lines from 13 to 17 bands, this results can be useful to varietals identification.
