Abstract |
Plant extract is an important nutritional tool in recent dietry models. Literature has been reviewed to select parsely (P) and coriander (C) as promising medical cheep leafy crops. The systematic analysis used included total polyphenols, flavonoids, vitamin C and –Carotene of their extracts as well as DPPH assay to compare their total antioxidant (AO) potentials. It seems that flavonoids, and in lesser extent polyphenols, are the most active AO sources. Although, in total chemical concept, C was less than P in almost all AO constituencies, its absorbance of polyphenol and total polyphenol measured by HPLC area under the peak were higher, meanwhile P made as 4/3 more DPPH percent inhibition as C. This mean that flavonoids are powerful AO component. Based on the metabolic response against lipedemia in a rat model trail, P suppresses C; meanwhile, stomach tube of CP misture was the best. The combined effect of P+C promotes the HDL level in hypercholestrolemic tests; rat's serum HDL/LDL in high dietary fat treated groups was even higher than the control. In addition, immunological globulins have been corrected to be the nearest to the normality. Moreover, Tissues of liver, spleen and kidney histopathology supported the concept that the protective effects of vegetables might be due to the action of lesser-known antioxidant compounds from a concerted cocktail of antioxidants present in foods as that seen for CP mixture. In some other words, pharmacologist should biologically and chemically explore the electron –donating antioxidants in individual items just like those in C or P. such data might be useful in the identification of the most beneficial one or mixture; since, more than a 1000-fold of these reductants is varied among total antioxidants in various dietary plants . it could be concluded that antioxidants contribute to chronic diseases protection, but results from intervention trails with single antioxidants administered as supplements quite consistently do not support a real benefit.
