English : Applying some chemical effectors for inducing systemic resistance against sesame charcoal rot disease in Egypt
Arabic : استخدام بعض المستحثات الكيميائية في استحثاث المقاومة الجهازية ضد مرض العفن الفحمي في السمسم.
Abstract In the present work, sesame seeds were soaked before sowing in certain concentrations of some chemical to stimulate the natural defense mechanisms in sesame plants against charcoal rot disease [Macrophomina phaseolina Tassi (Goid)], under both greenhouse and field conditions was investigated. Damping-off (% pre- & post-emergence) and charcoal rotted plants were decreased and % healthy mature plants at maturity stage was increased by all tested chemicals comparing with the untreated controls. In this respect, applying cobalt sulphate (2ppm) and salicylic acid(4mM) were the superior treatments for minimizing charcoal rot and maximizing healthy plants under greenhouse. Also, applying cobalt sulphate (1&2ppm), salicylic acid and bion (4mM) and IBA (100ppm) were the most effective treatments in field trials for decreasing charcoal rot incidence and increasing healthy plants and gave the maximum yield of sesame seeds. Studying some biochemical changes as markers for the induced systemic resistance indicated that considerable increases in activity of oxidative enzymes (peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase), phenolic compounds, sugars and total free amino acids were observed in root tissues of healthy sesame plants that grown from treated sesame seeds comparing with those grown from untreated seeds. The chemical inducers cobalt sulphate, salicylic acid, bion and IBA were the superior treatments in this regard.
