Applied research is conducted in the areas of evaluating and updating expert systems. Research topics include: verification and validation of developed expert systems, effect of expert systems on production increases, performance enhancement of users, maintenance of the expert systems, and others.

The department consists of two units:
Research Unit For Training
This unit will develop an intelligent tutoring system to introduce expert systems concepts and usage to researchers, extensionists, engineers, veterinarians, and farmers. Methods of measuring the effectiveness of training on production increases are also studied.
